Farm Action Offers Support for USDA–DOJ Effort to Address Rising Input Costs

Farm Action sent a letter today to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke Rollins and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) applauding their new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to scrutinize skyrocketing farm input costs and offering support in their efforts.

“The MOU is an important step toward addressing these systemic challenges and confronting the corporate power driving them,” the letter reads.

Since 2020, fertilizer prices have risen by 37%, seed costs by 18%, equipment costs by 45%, fuel and oil by 32%, and interest expenses by 73%—increases fueled by corporate consolidation.

“Farmers urgently need relief from consolidated markets and skyrocketing input costs. We are grateful for your efforts to restore fairness and competition to agricultural markets, and we look forward to working alongside you to achieve this goal,” the letter continues.

Farm Action stands at the ready to share with the USDA and DOJ its extensive research on these issues, including its Agriculture Consolidation Data Hub, and also provide farmer case studies and policy expertise to support the agencies’ work.
