During the avian flu outbreaks, Americans were told reduced supply explained soaring egg prices. 

But the Department of Justice (DOJ) now alleges that executives at major egg companies were illegally working together to push prices higher for nearly three years.

Now the DOJ wants to settle the case. Farm Action estimates Cal-Maine’s total obligation at about $2.8 million—just 0.23% of the $1.22 billion in profit it reported in a single year.

If allegations this blatant result in consequences this small, what will stop another company from doing the same thing?

A federal court must decide whether these settlements are in the public interest. You have until October 17 to weigh in.
