As the Mexico trade dispute over GMO corn continues, one farm leader is speaking out saying Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack is closing off a “premium market” for U.S. corn producers.
“The Department of Agriculture during this time period has done nothing to help move farmers towards a premium market, more money in their pockets, and we think that’s a mistake and a failed, missed opportunity,” said Farm Action’s Joe Maxwell.
Joe Maxwell says non-genetically modified seed is available to producers, adding that this could lead to premiums of $0.50-$1.00 more. He says Mexico is not the first country to push back against GM corn, and it will not be the last.
