A 2023 Review of the Biden Administration’s Commitment to Food System Competition

President Biden’s July 2021 executive order on competition directed multiple federal agencies to revive antitrust enforcement and promote competition throughout the U.S. economy. The order dispatched the USDA, the FTC, and the DOJ to address monopoly power in the food and agriculture system. Successful completion of these objectives has the potential to tip the balance of power toward farmers, ranchers, and the American people.

Farm Action teamed up with Open Markets Institute to track the progress toward completing the directives in the executive order. In July 2023, we released our second annual report card assessing the agencies’ progress on behalf of farmers, ranchers, and the American people, and to bring attention to what the administration must accomplish in its remaining time in office.
