Family Farm Action Commends House Ag Committee’s Hearing to Review the State of Black Farmers in the U.S.

Today, Family Farm Action submitted a letter to the House Agriculture Committee, thanking Chair Scott and Ranking Member Thompson for convening a hearing to review the state of Black farmers in the U.S. By calling for this historic hearing, it is clear the members of this committee recognize the need to address systemic racism in agriculture, and to work together to begin rectifying it.

The letter applauds the provisions in the American Rescue Plan that address racial inequality in the food system and includes Family Farm Action’s additional policy recommendations to the new Congress that further tackle discrimination in today’s food system.

While the Biden Administration and Congress are just beginning to address the historical and persistent inequities in our food system, Family Farm Action is encouraged by the House Agriculture Committee’s early display of commitment to remedying long-standing racial injustices and building an inclusive economy.
